Is Abhisit taking the right course?

A Bangkok Post columnist has raised the question whether the course Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva is taking in managing the country’s relations with Cambodia is in Thailand’s national interest.

Columnist Suranand Vejjajiva said on 13/11/09: “Former foreign minister Surakiart Sathirathai told me that the 2001 MoU on the overlapping area in the Gulf of Thailand has many “invisible benefits”, including a basic agreement that any activity in the area has to be agreed upon before implementation. By scrapping the MoU, the hands are now untied and Cambodia could go it alone. Is that the price to pay to keep Thaksin at bay?”
